DEPARTMENT OF NEUROSURGERY

Our clinic was founded in 1975 within Gevher Nesibe Faculty of Medicine by Dr. Metin Güner and Dr. Ümit Acar with an 8 bed service. Dr. Aydın Paşaoğlu, who was the head of our clinic between the years of 1980-1994, has modernised our clinic. After the transition of Dr. Paşaoğlu to the Gazi University Department of Neurosurgery, Dr. Ahmet Selçuklu was appointed as the head of the department between the years of 1994-1997. There after Dr. Hidayet Akdemir, between 1997-2005, Dr. Kemal Koç, between 2005-2006, Dr. İ. Suat Öktem, between 2006-2010 and Dr. Ahmet Menkü, between 2010-2013, served as the head of the department respectively. Since 2013, Dr. Ali Kurtsoy has been on duty.

Our clinic serves approximately 7-8 million people in Central Anatolia with 62 beds (49 of them in clinic, 13 of them in intensive care unit). Our clinic has an intensive care unit which invasive and non invasive monitorizations performed and 3 operating rooms which Transcranial Doppler ultrasonography, framed stereotaxy, neuronavigation, high resolution neuroendoscope, intraoperative ultrasonography, 3 surgical microscopes and other high Technologies are used.

There are 4 professors, 2 associate professors, 1 assistant professor, 7 research members and 11 research assistants in our department. The faculty members of our department have been engaged in scientific activities as an invited speaker in congres, symposiums and course, as well having published scientific articles in numerous international and national journals. The training of the research assistants of our clinic is carried out with case discussions, seminars and literature presentations. The efficiency, performance and success of the research assistants are determined by the scoring method with periodical exams and responsibility is given according to the score obtained. For clinical cases, regular meetings are held with other branches of science such as Neurology, Neuroradiology, Neuropathology, Radiation Oncology, Endocrinology, Pediatric and Adult Oncology, and diagnosis and treatment protocols are determined by council decision. In our clinic, 6 hours theoretical education for 3rd semester students and 15 workdays of theoretical education and patient-related applications for the 5th semester students are provided.
